A Graceful Goodbye

I am writing the letter to all of you who have followed me on this journey of creating a blog that is who I was and who I was becoming as a young woman in this world.  I have never believed in goodbyes but rather see you soon.  I haven't finished blogging or writing or sharing whatever it is that you call the posts you read here but I am going to change things up and really dive into the life I have before me!  I will not post again here at Debutante Diary but I am not going to delete it because this place was my first step towards the rest of my life.  I want to look back on this one day and think "wow look at how far I have come" and I know that with my whole life ahead of me and some very big plans in the future that the day when I do that may come a lot sooner than I think!

I want to leave you with this last thing:

YOU MAY NOT KNOW WHAT YOU WANT OR WHERE YOU ARE GOING BUT CHERISH THE MEMORIES AND DON'T CRY WHEN THINGS DON'T WORK OUT HOW YOU THINK THEY SHOULD.  YOU WILL LOSE FRIENDS AND LOVERS ALONG THE PATH BUT DONT BE SCARED TO BE ALONE, BEING ALONE TEACHES YOU WHO YOU ARE.  I HAVE LIVED 22 YEARS AND I KNOW WHO I AM AND WHAT I WANT AND YOU CAN LIKE ME OR HATE ME BUT I DONT CARE!

Book Club: "I've Got Your Number" Sophie Kinsella

"It all starts with one text..."

Last night I stayed up till after midnight just to finish this hilarious read by the always charming and witty Sophie Kinsella.  The story is about a frazzled woman named Poppy Wyatt who loses her life by way of her cell phone and vintage engagement ring all in a matter of moments.  She finds a makeshift phone tossed in a garbage bin and this is how she meets Sam.  The two of them embark on a series of adventures while she struggles with her own issues and pending wedding!  By the end of the book you are left laughing and wishing there was a sequel because you just can't get enough of poor Poppy.

This is one of those books that while being addictive and hilarious by the end you have learned something and its quite the valuable lesson! Bravo Sophie you made me love your books once again!

Lastly this book reminded me of something, well several things and I hope you can remember these things as you go through life!

1.  Don't settle...in life or in love

2.  Tell people how you feel, no matter how embarrassing or scared you are.

3.  Run with every opportunity that is presented to you...say yes and figure the rest out later!

Manner Monday: Mr. Oh So Wrong

I have occasionally, who am I kidding more often than not fallen victim to going out with a less than decent guy (notice just "decent" not "perfect").  I have been out with every type from over-confident frat boy to might shower once a week Ben.  I clearly don't discriminate but I have learned how to kindly (or not-so kindly on occasion) navigate the bumpy waters that arise once you realize he is not Mr. Right and you are Just Not That Into Him.  Surprisingly enough you can survive the date without bailing like a bitch or faking it and making him think you actually like him (do not let him believe this because he will become a stalker and you might end up murdered).  Also do not pull a Sex and the City and have a friend fake an emergency, that makes you as tacky as he is!  Instead follow these simple rules to ensure you make it out alive and never have to hear from boy again.

1.  Treat him as you would a friend whom you are just hanging out with.  Yes "friend-zone" him so that he doesn't get any ideas like thinking he can try to make-out with you.

2. If he does something offensive kindly let him know your view differs and the subject should be dropped.  He may continue which just proves he is a vapid loser who is not deserving of your time.

3.  Now if he starts talking about how he wants to be just like Charlie Sheen when he grows up quickly let him know you just can't be Lindsay Lohan so it is probably not going to work out between you two.

4.  He may not want to pay for the tab, movie, dinner, mini golf whatever it is you found yourself doing with him and if this is the case pay your half and tell him goodbye without so much as a kiss on the cheek, this should send a very clear message.

5.  If he doesn't get the hint after the goodbye and texts you later you can ignore him the way millions of guys have ignored girls before or you can just respond saying you won't be able to see him again. ( I usually go for the ignore tactic, it's my subtle jab at the horrible men I have dated).

6.  Now say he pays for everything but you just can't stand him and he drives you home...well you need to open your car door and run as fast as you can away from him and lock your front door.  I am just kidding say thank you for the night and leave him no room for no misunderstanding which means do not kiss him, hug him for more than a second or say you can't wait till next time.  We all know you don't want to do any of those things so don't!

7.  Lastly he probably thinks he is Casanova so he may text you no matter what you did to avoid further communication so if and when this happens like I said you can ignore him or let him know you don't wish to speak anymore.  If he responds poorly which in any case if he is a boy and not a gentleman he will just laugh and be glad you dodged that bullet!

I hope this helps darlings!  And I hope you can find Mr. Right before you have to date too many Mr. Wrongs!

Please comment with any other advice to help a darling in distress out!

Summer with Starbucks

As many of you know I have a terrible addiction to Starbucks...I am a proud Gold Card member and I literally drink at least 5 coffees a week ( one a day minus a couple days when I make my own coffee).  Summer is when my absolute favorite drink makes it debut and only sticks around for a couple months!  I had a friend tell me years ago that she will always be able to find me because i would be the girl with Starbucks in her hand and a giant bag on her arm! To this day that statement is true except when I opt to carry my Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC or Kate Spade Clutch!
So without further adieu:

1. Mocha Coconut Frappuccino Light
2. Coffee Light Frappuccino
3. Passion Tea Lemonade
4. Iced Coffee sweetened with Non-Fat Milk
5. Mocha Light Frappuccino

ENJOY Darlings!

I loved every minute of the MET Gala arrivals last night so one post on the fashion would not do the night justice so here are the rest of my favorites...well most of them!

AND LASTLY...

"Punk: Chaos to Couture" MET Gala 2013

This is by far one of my favorite themes done in the fashion/art industry yet!  I love fashion that is surprising while still remaining true to each designers natural aesthetic.  And OMG was Debbie Harry's headpiece to die for! I would literally wear it everyday if I could get my hands on one. Cara Delevingne also stunned in her custom made Burberry dress, can we say "oh my stud"! While some red carpet darlings pulled out all the stops my main man Eddie Redmayne looked subtly punk in Dior with his fabulous blue suit with skull handkerchief.  Another charming gentleman named Pharrell appeared in a badass Lanvin tux channeling Johnny Depp with his jewels.  Kerry Washington was also a favorite of mine with her over the elbow black gloves and purple peplum dress by the fabulous Vera Wang.  On the note of gloves, the most fabulous gloves I have ever seen were worn by Grimes and made by my favorite fashion house Chanel. Above all though Sarah Jessica Parker with that fabulous mohawk complete with custom Giles Deacon Gown and Christian Louboutin plaid thigh high boots stole my heart!

Spring Cleaning

It has occurred to me recently that my life as well as this blog needs to be cleaned.  I'm cleaning out my closet and cleaning up this baby of mine starting tomorrow!  Posts that do not reflect my mission for this blog will be reverted to drafts so that I can still see how far I've come but this blog is going to start reflecting its purpose:

Debutante Diary is a blog written by a 20 something rebel debutante that has taken her momma's rules and bent them while still remaining classy and poise.  I remember what I learned in cotillon and in debutante training however I believe that every girl needs a little adventure to go along with her demeanor.  This blog is for your girl who loves lace and Kate Spade as well as leather and Balenciaga.  Here's to us!
